Sad times.

Buster Olney covered the Padres last time everybody was shipped out of town. Here's his take on what is happening now.

Should one man's personal life be able to have such a large (and long-term) effect on an entire fan base? I'm normally for deregulation, but the league should never let something like this happen. But, I'm sure nobody will care. Would the same thing have happened if the umpires would have called Holliday out for missing home plate?

Thanks for the upcoming decade of $2 seats, Mr. Moores. Mark Cuban, anyone?

Pumpkin.

We went to pick out a pumpkin to carve for Halloween. We were kind of in a hurry, so we went to the grocery store instead of a pumpkin patch and they weren't super cheap there. But, Jameson insisted he needed four pumpkins. I convinced him to stop at three. (Growing up, pumpkin carving in my family merely involved drawing my desired face on my pumpkin, and my dad would do the rest. This kept me from getting any pumpkin goo on me ;) Thank you, Dad.) Now, after experiencing this ritual with Jameson, I realize that pumpkin carving is a VERY serious task for him. Here are some photos of Jameson, the skilled pumpkin carver, with pumpkin number 1:

This boy has more pumpkin carving tools than anyone I've ever seen. I didn't even know we owned any...

As you can see in the picture of the two of us, Jameson's pumpkin wasn't anywhere near being finished when I was done with mine. No, he stayed up until some 3 am to finish carving this masterpiece. Unfortunately we don't have the final pictures because all of the pumpkins rotted too quickly. But, Jameson did take me to a pumpkin patch last week in Half Moon Bay after all of this, and he got another pumpkin. We shall see what he creates. This is the magic number 4. It should be good.

'Twas the night before elections...

From my wonderfully conservative grandfather:

'Twas the night before elections
And all through the town
Tempers were flaring
Emotions all up and down!

I, in my bathrobe
With a cat in my lap
Had cut off the TV
Tired of political crap.

When all of a sudden
There arose such a noise
I peered out of my window
Saw Obama and his boys

They had come for my wallet
They wanted my pay
To give to the others
Who had not worked a day!

He snatched up my money
And quick as a wink
Jumped back on his bandwagon
As I gagged from the stink

He then rallied his henchmen
Who were pulling his cart
I could tell they were out
To tear my country apart!

' On Fannie, on Freddie,
On Biden and Ayers!
On Acorn, On Pelosi'
He screamed at the pairs!

They took off for his cause
And as he flew out of sight
I heard him laugh at the nation
Who wouldn't stand up and fight!

So I leave you to think
On this one final note-
IF YOU DONT WANT SOCIALISM
GET OUT AND VOTE!!!!
VOTE!
